The shift to in-house print finishing and booklet making.
Sydney, 1 June 2011 – Kwik Kopy, Norwood, South Australia, installs a Morgana DigiFold Pro and a DocuMaster booklet-maker to complement their suite of digital printers.
The market demand for short print runs, a fast binding solution and faster turnaround times forced Kwik Kopy, Norwood to rethink its processes to improve its overall efficiency to meet client expectations. The current labour intensive process of manually finishing printed materials such as stitching, folding and cutting needed to change.
“The workflow has almost trebled, requiring a solution that minimises manual labour and can provide a square back style of booklet to meet the needs of our clients,” said Adam Taylor, production manager at Kwik Kopy, Norwood.
The increased focus on variable digital printing and shorter print runs highlighted the need for finishing products that are specifically designed to manage digitally printed media.
The shift to short run DL size printing emphasised the need for specialised creasing and folding. “The issue we faced was the cracking of the digital stock. We were scoring and then folding by hand,” stated Taylor.
The increased need for booklet making also meant that outsourcing the finishing work was no longer a viable solution.
After evaluating the market, Kwik Kopy, Norwood concluded that the Morgana products would solve their manual handling problems.
Taylor says, “We now meet all customer demands with quality and speed. This has turned our finishing into a very efficient, reliable area with no outside costs and excellent turnaround times for our customers.”
The Morgana Documaster Pro creates an in-house automated booklet making facility. “Traditionally the books required stitching. The ability to produce square-back booklets makes the finished product look more presentable and attractive for our clients,” says Taylor.
To overcome the problem of the cracking of digital media, Kwik Kopy decided to add the Morgana DigiFold Pro to their finishing process that is predominantly focussed on short runs of DL size corporate flyers.
According to Taylor, the DigiFold Pro has enabled Kwik Kopy to crease on the run. “Now we can crease and fold, and prevent cracking, in one machine at a reasonable price with renown service.”
“The addition of the Morgana DigiFold Pro has allowed Kwik Kopy, Norwood, South Australia to overcome the problem of cracking media normally associated with the folding and creasing of thicker stock on a digital printer,” stated Trevor Maddiford, Sales Manager for South Australia and Western Australia, Ferrostaal Australia Pty Ltd.
